Our longtime partners from the Akevot Institute, alongside the brilliant Einat Weizman, have created a special production that brings to the stage hundreds of protocol pages that were confidential until now.
Between 1948 and 1966, the State of Israel imposed a military regime on its Palestinian citizens, which was akin to a state within a state. Under this regime, Arab citizens were subjected to different rules, obligations, and directives than those applied to Jewish citizens.
Yesterday, the play "The Matzpen Inquiry Committee on the Matter of the Military Regime" was performed. During the play, excerpts from the government investigation protocols were read, revealing the shocking systematic goals of the military regime—exploitation, control, surveillance, and apartheid.
_________
The texts from the protocols were read by members of "Matzpen," a radical left-wing group that operated in Israel from the 1960s to the 1980s. The organisation viewed Zionism as a settlement enterprise and strived for a society in which Arabs and Jews live together in full equality. In their activism, Matzpen played an important role in the struggle for the dismantling of the military regime.
The performance was accompanied by the wonderful Kasamba, who drummed while wearing our watermelon shirts. Kasamba is an activists group using drums and music as a tool of protest. They drum in demonstrations to support the causes and rights struggles we believe in.
Our watermelon shirts are right here!
